O-Shaped Throttle Body Gasket Installation
From Faq
The stock throttle body gasket has a slight "D" shape, URD USA sells a replacement gasket that eliminates the small obstruction. The stock gasket is metal, and the URD gasket is an oil/wax impregnated paper based material.
You can see just how small the obstruction is, however, the potential increase in airflow will be greater than the % area that is eliminated. Flow will be more laminar as well.
The same type of gasket is also supplied with the TRD supercharger kit. This small and easy modification can also be done to naturally aspirated 5VZ-FE (3.4 litre V6) engines. It also presents an opportunity to clean your throttle body.
Tools/Supplies:
- O Gasket
- Flat Head Screwdriver
- Crescent Wrench (or 14mm open ended wrench)
- 12mm socket and extension
- Torque wrench (accurate to 13 ft*lb or 18 N*m)
- TB cleaning solution, small brush, rag (if you decide to clean your throttle body)
Steps:
- While doing the installation, remove the EFI fuse from the fuse box on the driver's side of the engine bay.
- Remove the intake tube by disconnecting all vacuum lines, sensor connections, and loosening the wire clamps on either end of the tube.
- Loosen the nut (passenger side) holding the throttle cable to the bracket.
- Turn the throttle in order to remove the cable from it's slot.
Gasket Throttle cable removal
- Remove the nuts (2) on the top of the throttle body, and the studs (2) on the bottom of the throttle body.
- Pull the throttle body away from the intake manifold, just enough to remove the old gasket, and insert the new gasket.
- Re-attach the throttle body, and intake tube, careful to ensure that everything is where it should be. Nuts and studs should be torqued to 13 ft*lbs (18 N*m)
- Re-install EFI fuse.
- Go for a drive.
