Well you can't just go out there and do it, Tyler. You need to have a highly organized recovery effort and pre-flight planning like a SAC bombing mission of old.

I suggest that you first appoint some committees and have some planning sessions and meetings first. For example, who is gonna handle the PR and who is heading up the food the food detail? I suggest you let some of the NorCal types handle the organization for you guys unless you can get Dennis to lend a hand.

Bump for getting this guy some help SoCal.

I do not live any place near that and you do not need organization to get there but it’ll take a good amount of thought and equipment to get it back out. If I lived over that way, I’d go help. If it is still there on the weekend, and folks are going out, then I can see, though Ive no expertise in this stuff so at best I can be one more set of hands.

Glad every one is OK!!!

I'm saying it's totaled. Why don't you just report it to your insurance company and let THEM get it out?

It's going to end up in the same junk yard regardless of who or how it gets pulled out.

It didn't look all that bad from the pics. Hell it's a trail rig, it ain't gotta be all that purdy.

This is starting to look like it's going to cost you guys a fortune to get the truck out of there if you're going to be paying off people who come for gas money and maybe buying them some thank-you meals and a few beers and stuff... while also putting their trucks and personal well-being at risk.

Hopefully it all goes smoothly(and cheaper than it looks). It does beg the question though and make you wonder how much it would cost to have a professional come out and get it out.

Good luck and be safe out there.

I guess I pissed off the park ranger, he came out and remarked "Your gonna pull it out with that little rope?" Then he tried to intimidate me by asking for credentials, I mearly went on with the process and Vince had a long converastion with him, with threats of citations etc.....guess he got pissed he didn't get his kickback from a $2500 quote from a tow service he recommended. Needless to say he sat at the bottom as we pulled the truck out.

Before Charles showed up to lend a helping hand I had already pulled the 4Runner down the slot to the area where the extraction took place. the photo below is after we had pulled the rig past the tough part. I had Charles winchline through the top to insure it wouldn't rollover, due to both down hill tires were off their beads and no way to swap them out.

The 4Runner was originally further down, out of sight. I actually got lucky when I first set-up, banked on it rolling down hill once I started the angle pull, it did just that, rolling back about 35' and ended up exactly where I needed it. It took every tow strap and all my line just to reach, I would have loved to had snatch blocked it, but it was just too far away. An ATV was recently stuck at that location, so all the brush had been cleared for it's extraction.

Here's Charles acting as the brake man bringing it down the hill, one of the electronic boxes got torn apart, preventing us from getting it running.

Finally got it to the highway, where I waited til his buddy showed up with a tow dolly. It surprised me how well the roof held up after rolling over around 10 times.

As for why this happened is simple, he was using his brakes comming down hill, eventually boiling the fluid in the calipers, causing total brake loss.

Congrats on tugging that thing out. That must be a SERIOUS hill to boil the fluid in the calipers? I used to do autocross, and I never even boiled the fluid in my brakes... Crazy.

Good job again on pulling it out, what're the plans now??

Nice wake up call for me, I need to flush my brake fluid. It hasn't been done since my truck was new. My fluid is probably half water by now. Nice job on getting that out of there. You should have told that ranger that that little rope was good enough to hang him with after that runner got pulled out of there.

The saddest part isn't that you didn't know what the hell you were posting, but that the picture you scalped even told you what the aircraft were.
