Default Roll-on-paint-job-mod

So, upon finding that guy on a Mopar forum who painted a few of his cars with Rustoleum paint, I figured I'd give it a shot on my truck. Seeing that my dark green Aervoe camo paint was fading pretty bad on the roof and hood, I felt that repainting the truck in green would suck pretty bad if I knew it was going to fade again in a year.

After digging through a 100 page thread, I came to the conclusion that using Interlux Brightside paint would yield better results than Rustoleum paint. Interlux makes durable, high gloss paint for boats that is rolled on with a high density foam roller. After being rolled on, simply go over the paint with a foam brush to pop the bubbles. Once that is completed, the paint self-levels and leaves you with a shiny, almost wet-looking finish. Another good thing about Brightside paint is there is no need to thin out the paint with mineral spirits. When using Rustoleum, you almost have to use mineral spirits or the paint goes on too thick and won't dry quick/evenly.

I chose to do black on my truck simply because black is sick! LOL I know, it used to be black, I'm an idiot for painting it, blah blah blah. Well, live and learn I guess.

So far, I've only used half a quart of this paint ($22 a quart) and already completed most of one coat. Interlux says you only need 2 or 3 coats of the paint to be completely done.

One thing that some may have a gripe against is the orange peel in the paint once it settles. This can be completed by wet sanding with 1500 grit sandpaper then power polishing to an even better shine than before. I probably won't wet sand because I am OK with a *decent* looking paint job.

Here is a link to where you can find Interlux Brightside paint. I did some research and found this place to be the cheapest.

http://www.boatersland.com/intbrightside.html

I got the paint today and figured I'd roll some on to see how it would turn out. Well, I ended up doing one whole coat on the truck LOL Here are some pics of the progress...

That looks real good but want to see some pictures of it in the daytime. How long did a coat take you, a lot of taping or what?

Looks real good! From what I can tell it looks better than the rustoleum right off the bat. I looked on that link but couldnt find a color swatch page. Did you by chance find one for the interlux paints.... Never mind.. found one:

So far there is only one coat on mostly the whole truck. It took ~2 hours No taping really, except around the license plate and stuff. I didn't even take out the tail lights (didn't get everything completely pretty much). I still need to do a coat on the roof and paint the grill and stuff

I did find out that I should have thinned out the paint with mineral spirits. The paint would have laid out much better if I did that

No prep really. I wiped the green paint off since there was a bit of dirt on it from the weekend. The black paint went right over the green without problems.

I'm probably going to wet sand this coat tomorrow as best as I can since there are some runs in some spots. Also will be sanding to get rid of the high spots on the stars since I was too excited to slap the paint on

Looks good man, I bet a good wet sand- better yet wet 1000 then 1500 then 2000 and a good polish would probably make it look like a new car (according to what I've been reading about regenerating old paint).
I still want mine flat black like the old trucks- saw a show where they managed to get that old flat black look then some sort of clearcoat on it. One of these days when I need to fix body damage maybe.

Well I didn't end up getting any daytime pictures for you guys because it didn't look that good. After school though I started tearing the truck apart in prep for the second coat. What a difference from the first coat! I only have one picture for you guys but will get more before work tomorrow
