Wink FREE Service Guide & Vehicle History PDF Glove Box Booklet

greetings everyone, i would like to request your comments on the following ...

i recently purchased a 2006 tacoma x-runner and i love it dearly, i will be doing all the service work on this vehicle as it will most likely be normal driveway work, so i wanted to put together a service log booklet for the truck. i was unsatisfied with the service book the dealer gave me, and wanted something more compact than what toyota had available for print on toyotaowners.com. i have made these for myself in the past and have found them very simple and very useful! i decided this time that i would expand upon my simple service log.

i have gathered together all the service schedule information into a handful of concise pages, included information about capacities, general sizes and expendable service items. i have also included remote key fob programming, stereo/starter/alarm wiring information, and a wonderful color code chart that some kind sole has made. this booklet is mostly complete, but i would like to verify the information contained within.

if you have any further information that i could include in this booklet i would greatly appreciate hearing from you, in addition please verify any part numbers etc.

i will be posting this across a handful of tacoma forums, and would like to thank the community as a whole for the wealth of information available for these great machines.
if anyone should feel that i have not given credit where credit is due, please contact me as that is not my intention.

i thank you for your time and hope you enjoy what i have made...

Revision 1.1 June 21, 2006 http://www.carfiftyfour.com/tmp/Serv...tory_Guide.pdf

P.S. this pdf is intended to be printed on two sides and folded in half producing a 6x4.25" booklet stapled in the middle. if you do not have a duplex printer, print all odd pages first, ensure they are in the proper pulling order and put them back through your printer to print all the even pages.

I have a question about the oil filter. Why are there two different "Toyota" ones for the 4.0L? Which one am I supposed to buy? And is the TRD filter worth it at all?

Default oil filter differences

i have not seen the differences between the two, i would assume if you asked the local Toyota parts counter dude would pull both and explain the difference.

personally, the cheaper supertech and fram filters, while smaller than the factory filter, work just fine provided you keep good watch on your oil quality at every fillup and change acordingly. with that said, i plan on changing to the AmsOil filter at the same time I switch to their syntetic, they know their oil best so it just makes sense for me. i already have 2001mi and its only been 25days!!!!

Uh...

If you look at it again you will see that there is one filter for the I4, or "Inline four cylinder"- and another for the v6.

Get it?

Wink Re: **UPDATE** v1.4 FREE Service Guide & Vehicle History PDF Glove Box Booklet

**UPDATE** v1.4 2005+ Tacoma Service Guide & Vehicle History

I have released a new update for my guide, updating items which have been asked for, contributed to, and questioned. I would like everyone to continue to question, and double check my work as I will correct any mistakes and hope to continue to keep this document updated.

I want to stress that while Genuine Toyota parts are often better than generic OEM parts, there are many OEM part manufactures who produce excellent parts. I want to catalog these items in this guide, so that when I go to the parts store I know what will work and make my own decision based on my needs. Take for example the different oil filter and oil drain plug gasket parts I discovered work on my 4.0L this weekend!

Updates:

- i found a new oversized oil filter that works on my 4.0L V6, the FRAM 3600. its reasonable, larger sized, and fits perfectly in my engine. I would like to know what you 2.7L guys are using so I can include them.

- i found an alternative oil drain plug gasket which is metal on the outer rim and rubber on the inside. it was cheap, appears that it will last a while, and an alternative.

- got Toyota part number for the rear diff fill plug gaskets (please confirm)

- got Toyota part number for manual transmission fill/drain plug gaskets (please confirm).

- included spark plug gap specs

- got permission & credited the excellent color chart!

- included tire pressure statement. i think it will be better practice to teach people to look for the tire pressure sticker for their truck, rather than include spec's for all of the different available tires.

- while a zerk fitting location picture & oil drain plug location picture is helpful, i do not feel it appropriate to include in this guide. if you cannot find the oil drain plug, you shouldn't be changing your oil. the same might be said for the zerks but just remember 2 upper & 2 lower ball joints, 2 ends of the steering linkage, and 1 on the idler arm, and 1 on the pitman arm.

- i would like to remind everyone that this guide is intended to be printed on both sides of a sheet of paper, folded and stapled as to form a booklet. this will group all sections together properly.

i still need some help guys & gals, so please keep sending feedback and comments!

Default **UPDATE** Service & Maintainence History Guide v1.5

** UPDATE **

I have updated my Service & Maintainence History Guide for the 2005+ Tacoma to v1.5.

Added a couple more Oil Filters, have determined that the Fram 3600 has a oil catch valve, as do most all filters listed in that section. If you have further information please contact me.

Added the MAINT REQ reset procedure (5000mi idiot light), near the middle.

I still would like to find some alternative manufactures for most of the parts listed in my expendables section, please contribute if you should have any information.

Again I would like to thank the tacoma community and all who have contributed, please keep sending the feedback!!!

I would also like to remind people that this PDF is intended to be printed on both sides of paper, folded in the middle and stapled to create a booklet. If you have problems printing this please ask for help, its easy and looks great when printed properly.

**UPDATE v1.51**

I have gotten a couple great corrections!

- the last version was likely corrupted sorry guys & gals, but this version has been corrected and includes all the bottom parts of the service schedule images (pages 8-12).

- the 35,000mi service interval said to change air filter, but that should have been done at 30,000mi. this has been corrected to state oil change & filter.

Thanks guys! keep up the comments!
