Default WAT: 4X4 Conversion! Saturday Feb. 11 @ 11am

Alright guys, I was able to get off of work this weekend so I've decided to go ahead with my 4x4 conversion. I'm going to get started at around 11am on Saturday and probably work until sunset. It's supposed to be a cold weekend but I'll have my portable heater that I used at Jambo.

Come on by if you can lend a hand or just feel like hanging out. I'll have drinks and order some pizzas for lunch. PM me if you want my cell.

EDIT - The information below has been added due to all the questions that I've received about the swap.

What parts are needed?:

1. 4x4 tranny w/t-case and shifter
2. front diff w/ front mount & mounting brackets
3. spindles/hubs
4. cv axles
5. front d-shaft
6. 4X4 Rear D-shaft (it's about 11 inches shorter than the 2WD)
7. Transmission Mount on crossmember (2WD is different)
8. Floor shifter plate (you can try to cut yours but I found it easier to just get a 4WD one)
9. 4WD shifter boots (one is rubber that goes under the truck and the other is fabric for the interior)
10. Interior plastics
11. Speed sensor (some 4WD trannys dont come with one)

you DO NOT need a 4wd ECU

Tech/FAQ Conversion Document: LINK

How much did it cost?:

1{Splindles
Hubs
CVs
Spare Front Diff (w/ 5.29s)
Spare 5.29 Ring and Pinion Set for Rear
Spare Steering Rack
Spare Stock Skid Plate
Spare Stock Sway Bar
Spare Stock Springs and Struts
Spare UCAs
} = $250

2{4X4 Transmission
Transfer Case
Front and Rear DS
Rear Transmission Mount
4WD Push Button Shifter
Front Diff
Spare Pass. CV } = $750

Front Diff Mount = $20
Floor Shifter Plate and 4WD shifter boot = $20
Front Diff CV seals = $30
Torque Converter Seal = $9

Total Parts Used = $1079

Spare Parts I picked up in the process:
1{Front Diff (w/ 5.29s)
5.29 Ring and Pinion Set for Rear
Steering Rack
Stock Skid Plate
Stock Sway Bar
Stock Springs and Struts
UCAs} = $500?

2{Pass. CV = $100}

Total Spare Parts Value = $600

Pulled Parts:
PreRunner Transmission w/ 130k = $250?
PreRunner Spindles = $25?
PreRunner Driveshaft Set = $50?

Total Pulled Parts Value = $350?

OVERALL TOTAL:
Parts Used = $1079
Spare Parts Value = -$600
Pulled Parts Value = -$350
_______________________
Total Cost of Swap = $129

Damn dude, you always do these things when I got plans. I might could come by for a couple of hours, I'll just have to see how it goes.

BUMP! Just picked up the rear transmission mount. Now my last and only worry is the gears up front. I picked up 2 diffs. One of them has 5.29s and the other is questionable. I'm currently running 4.10's in the rear right now. I do have a set of 5.29's for the rear on the way but I'm not sure when I'll get them (plus I'm only running 30.6 inch tires). Guess I'll have to figure out what gears I have up front. How do I count the DS revs compared to wheel revs again?

5.29? isnt that a good ratio for a 35 inch tire

Thats what I'm planning on. I THNK the newer diff that I've got has 4.10's but I'm not 100% sure on it.

Well, I just got home and what do I find at my door step? 5.29's

Just too bad I dont have the tires and wheels yet. Oh well, probably won't have those until after this summer. Got to save up for my 1 month trip to Europe this June/July (and yes, I planned it so I get back just in time for TO).

EDIT: Just tested the front diff, it's got 4.10's! Woohoo!

Well, today went really good. We got the front end disassembled, 2WD tranny out, attempted to bolt just the transfer case to my 2WD tranny (didn't work), and installed the 4WD tranny and transfer case. It was crazy cold and windy but we got through it.

Thanks to all those that came by and helped out (in order of apperance ): Mitch, Lindsay, Kass, Manny, Steve, wierdmexicantaco, and Frank. Thanks guys, I really appreaciate it. I know that I'm like the only guy that lives on the SW side making this a quite a trip for you all. Thanks again!

And now some pics:

And of course, my package that my GF sent:

Thats WAY too much power to be that high off the ground. I can see that in an X-Runner but a PreRunner??? I'd probably end up rolling it the first day that I had it.
