Question 07 PreRunner TRD Has Too Much Body Roll

Truck: 2007 Access Cab PreRunner TRD 4.0, ~40,000 mi.

Problem: Little Bit too much body roll in the corners.

I've got a buddy who has a Titan. I follow him around the corners on curvy roads when we go dirt bike riding sometimes, and he likes to do 70 mph around those corners!

He's got a lot more rubber on the road, and more street-oriented tires (BFG Long Trails). (I have the stock Rugged Trails on mine.)

Not to mention, he's got quite a bit more HP & Torque!

I realize that my truck has off-road suspension, and I do love the ride when I'm going through fields and down bumpy gravel roads, etc.

But what can I do to reduce on-pavement body roll in the twisty stuff?

Overall, I love the handling of my truck - I have had it on Deal's Gap even, and I think it steers like a sports car.

This is my only real complaint (other than the fact that the Japanese don't know how to build an automatic transmission, ha ha).

What's the solution, fellas?

Not much you really can do, I guess you could get a beefier sway bar, widden the stance of the truck somehow IE wheel spacers or rims with less back spacing, and bilstein 5100 shocks at all 4 corners with the front set to zero.

If you really whant to take body roll out, install a rear sway-bar. You will lose offroadability, but that is the price you pay.

Air Bags in the rear help alot. I don't rock crawl mine, I use it to tow and drive in the dunes where max travel is not really needed (no I'm not prerunning it thru the whoops either). 15 psi in the bags unloaded and it will not sway nearly as bad. If your really going to drive it hard pump them up to 40psi with no load and it really stiffens up the chassis, but you will have a little bit of a stink bug stance.

I don't take my PreRunner off road; 99% is on-highway driving.

The worst terrain my truck will ever see will be going down a rough, unimproved road while trucking dirt bikes to the trail head.

That said, I don't want to lose suspension travel...

I am just hoping to be able to find a solution to the (what I consider to be) excessive body roll when I'm on a curvy road.

I am hoping to be able to find some aftermarket, adjustable shocks, or some other bolt-on solution that won't require extensive modifications to the truck.

Other than that small niggle, I love the truck, and I love yall's forum - it's a great source for info!

Does your truck qualify for the rear leaf tsb? I noticed a huge improvement in body roll after getting mine done. Much firmer ride, not harsh rather like the difference b/w and accord and a jetta.

Add a rear SB with quick disconnects. There are several threads about them on CT.

I've got the same issue going on right now on my 99 prerunner.

Do you have a canopy?

Do you have extra weight beyond factory on the front end?

Is your front differential dropped?

Right now I am upgrading to Eibach 700lb 14" coils and adding a rear sway, I will let you know how it works out.

The problem is you have a Tacoma and its not made for going around corners at 70MPH, get a sports car if you are going to do that kind of stuff, hell go find a track.

Last I checked a "Titan" is also a truck, they are made by Nissan. And 70mph is pretty fast for a corner in anything, i'm sure he meant a bend.

Yeah we know about those gas sucking Titans, his buddy most likely was just trying to show off what the truck can do. Sorry but thats not using any common sense! I hope he gets pulled over one day and gets his truck impounded... it'll teach him a lesson

Ok, why are you even posting on here, you are not even staying on topic. You obviously have some personal issues against other vehicles, and now you are speaking in third person.

Bingo. I disagree about loosing offroadability though. He's got a 2wd, he's probably not going to be rock crawling or mud bogging anyway. For anything else it will be just fine.

the rear SB can be fitted with quick disconnects. Mine works great.
