Default Welder Mag Ground???

ive started to grow tired of my clamp.... it seems like sometimes a convenient grounding surface is sometimes wider than what the jaws will open. i have been looking at a few mag ground clamps but im curious to how they hold up? do they lose their magnetism eventually???

I have one. Never lost magnatism, but I don't ever use it. It just collect metal shavings and now it doesn't get good enough contact. I may just have a shitty one tho. I have seen some new ones at the welding supply and they are really nice and very strong. They have an on off feature which is nice. but they are a lil pricey.

I just tack weld a piece of rod to whatever I'm welding if I can't get the ground clamps jaws around it. Seems to have work pretty well so far and is free.

magnetic gounding clamps like these are pretty slick you can turn on and off the magnatism with the knob on top so you dont have things sticking to it when your not using it. the thing with magnetic clamps is you really gotta keep them clean witch can be hard, when i was a welder i was trying to get my boss so get us a c clamp style ground clamp i think that the c clamp style get you the best ground if you have ever seen a normal ground clamp spring start to wear out and have the clamp spark all over the place then you know what i mean. here are a picture of both kinds.

If you have a flat surface, and it's clean, they can work...tho honestly I do what thehackman15 does, when I'm working with tube or anything difficult to ground...it's a lot easier than trying to work around a piece with the ground clamp.
