Default help diagnose vsv damage?

it's a 1990 4x4 3vze

there are three of these behind the fuse box on the passenger side. they got sprayed with acid and now i think they have or will quit working. i think they are vsv's, but does anyone know for sure what these are or do? in the mean time i will keep going through the manual to see if i can find them. thanks

Um, how exactly does something in your engine bay get sprayed with acid?

Can't say that I have seen those in my truck ...

the battery slid onto the powersteering pully, misting the engine compartment with a fine essence of eloctrolyte.

a parts counter helped me out... they are officialy 'valve assemblies, vacuum switching'. he couldn't tell me what they do, however. if they are EGR components then i can live without idle control and exhaust recirculating.

my main problem is i suspect one of them actuates the 4wd, although looking at the FSM i don't see any electronics or vacuum attached to the transfer case except for one 'transfer indicator switch'.

Ohhhh - gotcha

The ADD works off a vacuum solenoid. There is a prox switch on the shifter, that when engaged sends "signal" to the solenoid to switch, which engages the vacuum to move the ADD yoke, which is then picked up by another prox switch to light the 4WD light.

Or you can switch to manual hubs and lock the ADD yoke in the "engaged" position.

aha!

since i have manual hubs i guess there is no vacuum switch for the 4x.

the vsv switches in question must just be various emissions type junk.

thanks

the lines for those run in and out of the plenum and to a vacuum canister in the wheel well, I think they're emissions junk, if you figure out how to kill them without messing up your idle/engine control let us know.

well my idle is definitely messed up. before i thought maybe it was the coolant temperature sensor but it looks like the coroded vsv's are probably the culprit. hopefully it at least keeps running until i can track some of these down at a parts yard, they are awfully expensive new!

just passed 300k and now it's just one thing after another!

Those look like your A/C and fuel pressure regulator vsv's. The green one is for your a/c which increases your idle due to the increase load of the a/c compressor. The black one connects to your fuel pressure regulator then to the t-coupler on the plenum.
